Description
Very Rare Late 17th Century Original Flintlock British Military Pistol. Unmarked 13 5/8" octagon to round barrel, the gun being 21 1/2" overall. The barrel tang is secured by a screw from the underside. Banana shaped lock secured by three screws bearing the marking "J2R" (for James II), forward of the hammer. The brass tipped wooden ramrod is old but probably not original, single ribbed ramrod pipe. Brass butt cap, simple iron trigger guard and an area of relief carving on the walnut stock bordering the barrel tang. Approximately 60 caliber smoothbore. The iron parts of the gun have a pleasant dark gray patina with some very minor areas of light salt and peppering. There is a partially visible round depression on the left barrel flat about 1" forward of the breech plug, (the gun was not disassembled for inspection). Approximately 5" of the forestock has been restored, beautifully done and obviously very old. There is also a darkened 1" area above the front of the lock that could conceal a repair. Most rare with examples seldom available on the open market.Auction Info
