Note: This gun last sold on September 22, 1987 at the Richard A. Bourne Co. Auction in Hyannis, Massachusetts, Lot 229. A copy of that catalog is provided with the sale. Eric Value, who appears to have catalogued this piece for the auction states, "A very respectable genuine Paterson, actually the rarest of all standard model Patersons with only about 500 produced." According to The Book of Colt Firearms by RL Wilson; "Total production approximately 500; numbering from #1 on up. Manufactured c. 1837-1838. The entire lot was completed in 1838; but some were altered by the addition of loading levers in 1840-41; at the same time, cylinders at the breech were rounded."

Condition: Good to very good overall for this type of revolver. Small traces of blued finish to protected areas of barrel, wedge area and frame near recoil. Balance a smooth grey patina with areas of light pitting, possible touch ups at some point. Barrel address clear. Visible cylinder scene, a few nipples with broken cones. Frontstrap with 2 period fillings. Marred screws present, missing right screw of backstrap. Grips good with small chip at front left toe and period repair to upper left. Hammer and front of cylinder have been cleaned and buffed. Hammer possible repair. Action crisp, bore a bit dark, but rifling present.
