Pair of English Flintlock Greatcoat Travelling Pistols by Prosser. .52 caliber, 3 3/4-inch octagonal damascus barrels, the top flats with legend: Charing Cross, London. Dovetailed front sights and gold-inlaid bands at breech. Engraved dentate pattern bands behind gold bands. Engraved upper tangs and screws. Handsome engraved lock mechanisms with ship's prow pans and roller frizzens. Locks marked: Prosser. Sliding safeties. Figured walnut stocks with checkered grips, engraved steel furniture and vacant silver wrist escutcheons. German silver barrel wedge escutcheons. Varnished hardwood ramrods. Both contained in an associated diagonally partitioned walnut case with brass lid escutcheon and contemporary burgundy felt lining. Condition: Both are very good, the metal showing a smooth, grey patina. Wood fine with only minor marks present. Both are mechanically crisp. Associated case good, showing a slightly warped lid and wear overall.
