Description

Large Silver Mounted American Flintlock Pistol. 17" overall, with 12", unmarked, smoothbore, .56 caliber octagon to round iron barrel. Dovetailed rear sight, blade front sight, side plate, trigger guard, ramrod pipes, ramrod tip and pointed oval inlays all of silver or very heavy silver plate. Somewhat primitive walnut stock with carved forestock moulding. The nicely engraved lock marked "C. Bird & Co. / Philada". Engraving on goose neck hammer, reinforced pan with no breech plug /tang apparent. The gun shows honest use overall, the iron barrel generally smooth and gray, with just some scattered salt and peppering. The front three inches of the forestock have been professionally restored, and there are several additional minor cracks in the wood that deserve attention. A rare American pistol worthy of full and competent restoration.
