Description

Flintlock Dragoon Pistol by Allport/Ketland.
Approximately .62 caliber, 9-inch barrel marked: LONDON. Breech with Birmingham proof marks. "Tombstone" proof on breech c1820. Interesting 3-leaf design engraved on both upper tang and rear of lock. Engraved hammer. Lock marked: ALLPORT/LATEWTH/KETLAND&CO. Brass furniture. Varnished hardwood stock with vacant brass oval escutcheon.
William Allport was a lock maker 1807-1823. Allport-marked Ketland locks are found 1816-1823.

Condition: Good. Steel a mostly smooth gray patina with scattered spotting and fine pitting. Frizzen spring absent. Lock does not function. Missing back lock. Stock very good with later applied varnish. No ramrod present.
