Description

Circa 1720 British Military Flintlock Holster Pistol. Large brass mounted original flintlock British military holster pistol. 12 5/8" octagon to round iron barrel, the gun being 19 1/2" overall. The tang screw projects from the underside, large pronounced banana shaped engraved lock bearing the surname "SPENCER" after the initials "IA" or "TA", with engraved hammer. The brass mounts include a serpentine side plate, elegantly cast decorative wrist escutcheon, engraved butt cap with side straps, engraved trigger guard and a single ribbed ramrod pipe. The are the marks of a backwards "R" joined to a front facing "R". on the top of the barrel with the same mark engraved on the butt cap enclosing a "W". A number of proof marks at the breech. Walnut stock, .60 caliber smoothbore. The gun shows honest wear and use. There is a 4" section of wood replaced on the left forestock and a 5 1/2" sliver replaced on the right forestock. Repairs obviously very old and expertly executed. A very rare and early British flintlock military pistol.
