Description
Cased Pair of Saxon Percussion Pistols by C. L. Schindler. .30 caliber, 5 1/4-inch fine damascus octagonal barrels with 8-groove rifling. Top flats inlaid with blued silver panels inscribed: C.L. Schindler Sohn In Zella Bei Gotha. Fire-blued fore-sights. Breeches with adjustable rear sights and numbered 1 and 2 respectively. Locks with external safeties. Blued steel triggerguards and buttcaps. Cap reservoirs with shell form lids. Walnut half-stocks with fluted grips and finely carved panels of leafage at the fore-ends. Complete with keyed rosewood case, the back edge fitted with brass handle. Front edge with German silver escutcheon inscribed JCS 1886. Interior of lid lined in red silk velvet. Fitted interior lined in gilt-stamped russet leather. Accessories include bag-shaped flask, two ramrods, horn-mounted nipple wrench, powder measure, molds for conical and round projectiles and small wooden box of cap with paper label bearing an image of an Austrian double-headed eagle. Condition: Excellent and probably unfired. Accoutrements with light wear and patina. Stocks with few minor blemishes, one with minor hairline cracks at fore-end and behind lock. Case lid with dents and scratches and horizontal crack across the center. Lining showing wear and scattered tears.Auction Info
