Please note: While researching the name and possible history online, we found an English brewer and landowner who resided at Haling Park, Croydon, and Beddington, Surrey, by the name of James Watney [1800-1884]. We cannot confirm or match the family crest to him or his family, but it is worth researching more.
Provenance:
The Richard P. Mellon Collection;
Private Collection.
Condition: 1) Fine as refinished. Nice traces of case-hardening present. Bluing to furniture. Checkering visible and present, but soft to the touch. Actions good, bore good. 2) Very good as refinished as well, similar to the previous example with the only major difference being the 1/2-inch rust spot present from storage or handling [right barrel 1/3 away from the breech, has the look of a full size fingerprint]. Both safeties on each gun and tight/frozen in place. Case good; with expected dings, mars and some separations. The exterior has evidence of being revarnished, the green velour lining on the inside is fading, and has a few tears along with some compartment tears/separations as well. Available accessories are good with storage and handling wear. Collection of a Southern Gentleman.
