Description
Cased Pair of Flintlock Pistols by W. Ketland. Comprising: 1) Unserialized, approximately .64 caliber, 7 7/8-inch slightly swamped brass barrel marked: LONDON and with proof marks at breech. Simple engraving to top of barrel and tang. Steel lock marked: W/KETLAND/&Co. Brass furniture. English walnut stock. Hardwood ram rod. 2) Unserialized, approximately .64 caliber, 7 7/8-inch slightly swamped brass barrel marked: LONDON and with proof marks at breech. Simple engraving to top of barrel and tang. Steel lock marked: W/KETLAND/&Co. Brass furniture. English walnut stock. 3) Both contained in hardwood case with brass fittings. Gold velvet lined interior with compartments for both guns and various accessories which include: Brass single-cavity bullet mold marked: E UHLAND; Plated brass oiler; small unmarked brass powder flask; Hardwood cleaning rod with worm; Hardwood tamping rod; Brass key; Single lead ball and patch. Wm Ketland & Co. were active in Birmingham, England from 1808-1829. Condition: 1) Very good to fine. Barrel has been polished and shows very light handling wear. Moderate pitting at touch hole. Steel with light age wear and patina. Stock with hair line crack through grip otherwise fine. Action functions. 2) Very good as configured. Barrel appears to have been cleaned. Lock is ill-fitting. Stock is fine. Sliver-chip repairs behind hammer and forward of hammer. Ramrod absent. Action functions. 3) Case is good to very good as an addition to the pistols at a later date. Lid is cracked. Velvet with age wear and patina. One compartment cover with crack through fastener. Accessories are all very good to fine with age patina.Auction Info
