Description
Carved & Engraved Spanish Flintlock Pistol.Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 8-inch octagonal to round barrel. Decoratively engraved proof markings to the top of the barrel. Scroll engraved hammer and flash pan. Smooth hardwood pistolgrip stock, decoratively carved at top of wrist and base of forearm. Carved brass crest like badge inlaid just below wrist. Elaborately engraved lock plate, triggerguard and oversized grip cap. A flintlock pistol is a muzzle-loading handgun that uses a flint-striking ignition mechanism. This technology was the standard for military and civilian use from the early 17th century until the mid-19th century, when it was superseded by the percussion cap.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of handling wear, age and pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood, along with some loss at relief edges. Screw to lock plate absent and ramrod absent. Action functions. Pitted bore.
