Description

Carved & Engraved French Flintlock Pistol.

Unserialized, approximately .69 caliber, 12-inch octagonal to round barrel. Decorative floral and scroll engraving to top of barrel, with a hint of gilt. Scroll engraved hammer and lock. Smooth hardwood pistolgrip stock with decoratively carved silver and brass inlays. Heavily carved brass triggerguard and oversized grip cap. Round-tipped ramrod. The flintlock pistol is a technology that dominated both military and civilian use from the early 17th to the mid-19th century. It replaced earlier matchlock and wheellock systems.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with honest age, handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood, with some loss at grip cap.
