Description

Brass Mounted British Flintlock Holster Pistol C. 1770. 13 1/2" overall with 8" .62 caliber, smoothbore, round brass barrel. Barrel exhibits three proof marks and is engraved "Heylin*Cornhill*London". Rounded lock with reinforced pan marked "Heylin". Brass mounts include trigger guard, open work side plate, ribbed ramrod pipes, elaborate unengraved wrist escutcheon, butt cap with applied mask and ascending straps. Stocked in walnut with elaborate carving around and behind the barrel tang. Wooden ramrod. Shows some honest wear and use overall with a period repair of the wrist utilizing brass straps flanking the escutcheon. Also a nicely done period repair of the trigger guard extension in the same area. Hairline, with no loss on left side of trigger guard, with a small abrasion below the rear of the side plate. Also a few small slivers on both sides of the forend, very minor. The brass has been nicely hand polished. A very pretty pistol, definitely dating to the period of the American Revolution.
