Description

Colt Model 1878 Frontier Double Action with Known History. Serial number 25524, 4¾" barrel. Per Colt factory letter shipped to Hibbard, Spencer, Barlett & Company, Chicago, May 31, 1890. A nice example of this model, with approximately 50% original blue and the double action working smoothly. According to the letter of provenance it belonged to Joshua Bianchi, who came to Victoria, Texas, in 1885. Bianchi, who carved his name on the inside of both grips, was an engineer on the Southern Pacific Railroad from 1913-1943 and, according to his grandson, "needed to carry this for protection." While we may not tend to think of Texas in this era as the Wild West, there was widespread lawlessness across much of Texas, particularly during the period of the Mexican Revolution.
