Description

Circa 1710 British Original Flintlock Military Holster Pistol. Large, extremely rare, brass mounted original flintlock British military holster pistol from the very early 18th century. 14", .60 caliber smoothbore, octagon to round barrel, bearing two proof marks and a tang screw that enters from the underside. The gun is 21" overall. The lock has a rounded surface with a pronounced three screw banana shape and the name "SIBLEY" engraved behind the hammer. Forward of the hammer is an engraved crown of the initials "AR" (Queen Anne) over an arrow pointing down; similar initials and arrows are engraved on both sides of the butt cap. The front of the trigger guard has a rounded sea service type finial. There are no markings on the single ramrod pipe, flat side plate, or the trigger guard. The gun has a brass capped wooden ramrod with patina suggesting it is possibly original. The iron parts of the gun show wonderful smooth patina with little if any pitting; the brass shows similar age color although there is the possibly the ramrod pipe is a very old replacement. The front 3" of the forestock shows some repair/restoration but expertly done, and obviously very old, with nice patina, detracts little. Another very rare early British military flintlock pistol.
