Description

Amazing 1876 Centennial Inkwell. This has to rank as one of the most ornate inkwells we have ever offered. The piece is made of iron and stands 11 1/2" from the base to the top of Lady Liberty's hand, and is 7 1/2" deep and 12" wide. The dome that sits on the glass inkwell has a star burst and the date "1776". The shield in the front reads "E Pluribus Unum". There is a silver band, which is damaged and missing a piece, which is adorned with stars. With the inkwell is an eyeglass and letter opener, which are likely original to the piece. Liberty's right hand has some damage, but overall this an ornate and dramatic display piece From the Collection of the Late Edward C. Gillette.
