Description

Museum Copy of the King Philip War Shield. This early 20th century cast aluminum shield is reported to be a copy of a 16th century shield made for the Spanish king Philip in 1552 by Desiderio Colman. The domed, circular shield with the outer border decorated with relief figural images of royal hunting scenes, depicting combat with large game animals. The inner area of the shield depicting armed warriors flanked by wreath enclosed vignettes of ancient charioteers. Made with hanging wire on reverse. Size: 21-inches in diameter. Reported to be from the estate from an Ambassador Fletcher circa 1962. Condition: Very good. Showing some age wear and patina.
