Description

Ex. Dick Scobee

Space Shuttle Columbia Piggybacked to a NASA 747 Model on Wooden Base Originally from the Personal Collection of Astronaut Dick Scobee, with LOA. A handsome model with approximate overall dimensions of 14" long x 7" tall x 11.75" (across wings). Label of Halnet International on underside of base. Scobee never flew on Columbia but was commander of the ill-fated Challenger (STS-51-L) mission in January 1986. Several minor cracks and a repair to the tail wing of the Shuttle. One of the two pins holding it in position to the 747 is missing but would be an easy repair.

Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity from Dick Scobee's brother reading in full: "I certify that this is Dick Scobee's personally owned model of Space Shuttle Columbia, riding piggyback on a Boeing 747. Although Scobee never served on a STS Columbia mission, he piloted Challenger STS41-C in 1984 and of course, commanded the ill-fated Challenger STS-51-L mission in 1986. Model measures approximately 14" long x 7" tail x 11.75" wide across wings. With label of Halnet International, Inc. to underside of base. Repair to tip of wing and a few cracks to pieces including tail wing of Columbia. The model remained in the estate of Dick Scobee until it was consigned to Nate D. Sanders Auctions."
