Description
Mercury-Redstone 4 (Liberty Bell 7) Flown Film in Lucite, #272/1000. A 1.75" long strip of 16mm film from the second manned flight in the U.S. space program with Gus Grissom aboard, encased in a trapezoidal Lucite display of 8.25" x 1.75" x 3" tall (overall). Also encased are photos of Grissom and the space capsule. Explanatory text below the film reads: "Liberty Bell 7. This is an original piece of film from Liberty Bell 7's pilot observation camera, which captured all the movements of astronaut Gus Grissom as he became the second American in space." Issued in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of this flight. July 21, 1961 - July 21, 2001." Additional text on verso. Included is a signed Certificate of Authenticity from the president of the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center giving the details of the salvage of the Liberty Bell 7 and the history of this piece of film.
