Description
Gemini Foldout Desktop Cockpit Control Training Aide Directly from the Personal Collection of Gemini 3 and 10 Astronaut John Young, Certified and Signed. This would certainly add a lot of display "pizzazz" to any space collection! The overall dimensions of this unique Gemini training aide are: 21.5" wide x 11.5" tall x 5.75" deep. The center block appears to be of painted wood with three metal extensions, one bolted to each hinged side and one to the top. The surfaces are covered with paper printed to make this look much like a scale model of the cockpit in the Gemini space capsule. On the back of the top panel, Young has certified and signed: "From My Personal Collection- Used to learn Cockpit Switches and Circuit Breakers. John Young". It was used by Young to help him memorize the location of the literally hundreds of switches, gauges, and circuit breakers used to control the spacecraft. There is some light soiling from storage that could likely be cleaned, a few small areas of cellophane tape stain, and two tiny gouges in the paper surface of the center piece, else fine condition.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from John Young stating: "I hereby certify that the desktop Gemini cockpit trainer that accompanies this letter was used by me as a training aid to learn and memorize the cockpit switches and circuit breakers on the Gemini spacecraft. It is from my personal collection.
