Soviet Luna 24 Spacecraft Return Artifact as Flown to the Surface of the Moon and Back to Earth, in Framed Display. A 0.375" x 0.125" segment of this unmanned spacecraft that traveled to the moon in 1976 and returned with soil samples. It is double matted with a photo and engraved plaque with the following text: "A lunar surface sample return artifact from Luna 24, the last Soviet Luna series spacecraft to retrieve lunar soil samples from the Moon. Luna 24 landed 18 August 1976 in Mare Crisium (Sea of Crises) and retrieved 170.1 grams of lunar material before returning to the Earth on 22 August 1976." Framed by Novaspace to an overall size of 12.5" x 18". Included with this lot is a copy of a Russian language document verifying the history. Very fine.
