Description

NASA Manned Flight Awareness Posters: Collection of Thirteen Originals Comparing Apollo to Historical Aviation Landmarks, 1968. We believe this to be a complete set though we've never seen any of these previously. They measure 8" x 10.5" and each features text and images regarding a different historic date in aviation history, then comparing the technology to that of the then-upcoming Apollo flights. As follows: December 17, 1903, Wright Brothers flight; July 30, 1909, War Department's first airplane test; October 26, 1909, First U.S. Army pilots; September 17, 1911, Vin Fiz first transcontinental flight; March 17, 1917, Women constructing Vought VE-7s; May 16, 1919, Nancy 4 first transoceanic flight; July 5, 1919, Caproni's failed Model 60 Houseboat; February 22, 1921, First transcontinental night mail flying; November 12, 1921, Frank Hawks and Earl Daugherty's first rendezvous; March 16, 1926, Robert Goddard's launch of the first liquid propellant rocket; May 21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh's solo non-stop trans-Atlantic flight; July 22, 1930, Reichers and Black's 313 hour flight without a landing; and October 23, 1934, Jean and Jeanette Piccard's first stratospheric balloon flight piloted by a woman. A very interesting group of items that should appeal to both aviation and space collectors. Excellent.
