Description
Gemini 5 Flown MS64 NGC Sterling Silver Fliteline Medallion Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. This 25mm medal was flown aboard Gemini 5, which doubled the space-flight record of the previous Gemini 4 mission to eight days, the length of time that it would take to fly a mission to the moon (planning for the future). Onboard Gemini 5 were Gordon Cooper and Charles Conrad, Jr. The obverse of the medal shows a covered wagon due to the pioneering nature of the flight with the slogan"8 Days or Bust" across the wagon. NASA managers were not very happy with this; they feared that it placed too much emphasis on just the length of the flight, not what was accomplished. The reverse is blank save for the sterling hallmark. As a member of the astronaut office, Armstrong was allowed to purchase this medal. A Choice Uncirculated example of a lovely medal. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.Learn more about Collectibles Authentication Guaranty (CAG).
