Description
"Houston, we've had a problem. We've had a Main B Bus Undervolt."
Apollo 13 Flown Electrical Failure Quick Reference Two-Sided Checklist Cue Card Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A 5" x 6.5" (overall) triangular-shaped heavyweight printed (both sides) card dated March 16/ March 29, 1970. The front has various major problem topics highlighted in boxed text, as follows: "AC BUS LIGHT + MN BUS UNDER-VOLT + BUS OVERLOAD", "MN BUS LOSS", "AC USERS", and "ELECTRICAL POWER USERS". Each has specific instructions to follow in case one of these problems arise. It is signed on the verso on black ink: "Electric sys/ Failures-/ James Lovell" and there are three strips of Velcro for mounting to the spacecraft control panel. This side lists various step-by-step instructions A through I, starting with "A. Verify lunar comm config, except during coast phase: S-BAND AUX TAPE SW-OFF". A rare piece of Space history. Excellent. It's interesting to note that, at 02:07:55:35 into the mission, James Lovell's full transmission to CapCom Jack Lousma was actually: ""Houston, we've had a problem. We've had a MAIN B BUS UNDERVOLT." Shortly after, at 02:07:58:25, Fred Haise transmits: "Yes. We got a MAIN BUS A UNDERVOLT now, too, showing." We wonder if one of the crew might have glanced at this very card on the instrument panel during these critical moments
Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his company letterhead stating, in full: "I certify that the attached Apollo 13 checklist on board the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Apollo 13 perilous flight took off on April 11 and returned safely on April 17, 1970. This checklist was attached to the instrument panel and was used for quick reference in case of an electrical failure. This checklist was from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
