Worn in the left arm pocket of Bean's spacesuit during both moonwalks

Apollo 12 Lunar Module Flown and Lunar Surface Used Garland Mechanical Pencil, from Alan Bean's Personal Collection, with His Original Handwritten Letter of Authenticity. This chrome-colored Garland model 35-P mechanical pencil is 5.125" long and has a piece of Velcro wrapped around the top above the clip for ease of stowage and attachment onboard the flight. The NASA part and serial numbers "SEB 12100081 - 301" and "S/N 1004" are plainly engraved on the barrel. Made by Lew Manufacturing Co. of Coventry, Rhode Island, the pencil is still functional. Heritage Auctions sold the matching Fisher Space Pen in May 2014 for $53,125. Very fine. From the estate of Moonwalker and Artist Alan Bean.

Included in this lot is a Alan Bean's handwritten and signed Letter of Authenticity on his personal letterhead. It reads, in full: "I hereby certify that the accompanying silver mechanical pencil traveled with me to the Lunar Surface on the Ocean of Storms in November 1969. I used this pen in our Command Module, 'Yankee Clipper' on the way to and from the moon. I used it during descent and landing on the Moon inside our Lunar Module, 'Intrepid' and on liftoff to rendezvous with the orbiting Command Module. I carried it in my left arm pocket during both moonwalks. [signed] Alan Bean Apollo 12 LMP"
