Description
BEATLES PHOTO ARCHIVE. The Beatles' brief seven-year recording career has been well chronicled and they were the most photographed band in the modern rock era, if not THE most photographed act in entertainment history. The Beatles' popularity continues to the present day and any newly discovered or unpublished photographs of them are certain to spark interest among Beatle fans and collectors alike. We present to you 52 such photographs, 22 of them showing individual shots of the Fab Four, in casual and apparently unguarded moments. The photographer and circumstances under which the photos were taken are unknown but apparently he had access to John Lennon's and George Harrison's estates because there are many images of their homes taken from several different angles. Several of the photos were taken in 1967 and the Beatles were fresh from the success of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Both John and George's houses reflect that Summer of Love, with psychedelic designs painted on them, and George's bungalow is almost entirely covered in this motif. Unfortunately, the photos of George's house do not include the publicity-shy and very private Beatles but the images of Lennon's home, named "Kenwood", are most intriguing. Not only do the photos include Lennon, but it would appear that the photographer just knocked on the door and asked for autographs or a photo opportunity. John Lennon appears nonplussed and most accommodating, even signing a copy of the "Magical Mystery Tour" album cover, clearly seen in one photo and even posing with one fan. Look closely and you will see strategically placed inside Lennon's window, props from the Sgt. Pepper album cover, specifically cut-outs of Lewis Carroll and British occultist Aleister Crowley. Also included in this group from Lennon's home are John, sunning himself in the backyard by his swimming pool apparently doodling his artwork. Another photo shows a caravan painted in Sgt. Pepper motif for his son, Julian. Other photographs from this lot are from mid-to-late 1966, apparently taken while the Beatles were "on the move", either exiting or entering their limousines and various cars, including individual shots of Paul, George and two of John. Also available are photographs taken from what appears to be mid-to-late 1968 that include Paul again either entering or exiting his limo and Ringo signing copies of the booklet that came with the "Magical Mystery Tour" album. Various Beatles wives are also shown, with one shot of John's first wife Cynthia, happily posing just outside their day-glo painted front door. George's first wife Pattie, who later inspired the Eric Clapton song, "Layla", is also shown signing an autograph, as well as one shot of her sister Jenny Boyd, who would later marry and divorce Mick Fleetwood. As a bonus there is one photo of vigilant Beatles fans, hanging out just outside EMI Recording Studios, where the Beatles recorded nearly every single song they released. If you are a Beatles fan, then this is an opportunity to own something that no other Beatles fan owns. Most of the photos are in color, with a handful in black and white. Sizes vary from 3 1/2" x 5" to 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" to one shot of Lennons, blown up to 8"x10". Beatles Forever!! Get yours today!!!
