Description
FRENCH THEATRE AND ENTERTAINMENT..
Please note: Autographs from the Leonard Finger collection have not been autenticated by Spence/Grad but we believe these autographs to be as stated.
Varied and interesting collection covering multiple aspects of French culture. We’ll start with the high-brow and work from there. There are four small format "L’Illustration" programs for the Comedie-Francaise from 1890, 1892, and 1900 (two with mounting remnants) and six official programs of the Comedie-Francaise from the 1920s. Then, we have a small booklet, 16pps., purporting to be "The Secret Directory of Foreigner Bachelor in Paris [to] Casas Nocturnas." Plus, large format souvenir programs for: "Bonjours Paris" at the Casino de Paris in 1924-5 (Mistinguett on cover), Folies Bergere Premier Album for 1923, Folies Bergere 50th anniversary album from 1927 (original tissue paper cover and great color illustration of Josephine Baker inside), Folies Bergere 1938 with original tissue paper cover, and undated (circa 1940s) flocked paper cover Folies Bergere album. The balance of the lot: premier edition of "Music Hall" magazine from 1911, 1899 souvenir folding fan from the Marigny Theatre on the Champs Elysee with ad for Maxim’s Restaurant, small format programs for the National Academy of Music and Dance (1922), vaudeville at the Olympia (1925), topless revue at the Ambassadeurs (1925), Theatre de l’Avenue (1931), Coquelin at the Porte Saint Martin (1904 with faults), Hippodrome (1890s), Viennese operettas at the Theatre du Vaudeville (1911), benefit performance of the Mutual Aid Society of Russian and French Dramatic Artists at Theatre-Michel (1902), the Moulin Rouge (circa 1900 with mounting remnants on back cover), two promo cards for "Zig Zig" at the Cabaret Music Hall, and a promo foldout for Mistinguett and Fernandel in "Folies en Folie."Auction Info
