Description

Carnival/Carousel Art: Fortune Teller Lighted Plaque. This is a true piece of Americana and a fun item, at that! This sturdy, three-dimensional, carved wood plaque depicts the head of a gypsy fortune teller, perhaps the ubiquitous Zelda. She is surrounded by six ping-pong ball-size light bulbs which, when lit, enhance the perception that one is dealing with a clairvoyant. The plaque measures 25" tall, 21.5" wide and 2" deep. Zelda's head, in the half-round, is 3.5" tall. The front of the plaque was repainted some time ago and the electrical components rewired. There is a iron bracket affixed to the back side for hanging. We assume it adorned a carousel or arcade and is circa 1915-1930.
