Description

Very Nice Five Ball Guard American Eaglehead Militia Officer's Saber C. 1825 Nearly identical to FIG 66 in Peterson, this example being in very nice desirable untouched condition. 28 1/2" curved blade in very fine condition. Decorated with fire blue and gilt decorated engraved motifs for half its length. The fire blue panels terminate in scrolls on both sides and decorated with gilt highlighted scroll and military motifs. Retains 90% of the original blue and gilt. The balance of the blade a light gray with touches of luster. Absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. The hilt of classic form incorporating five balls of graduated sizes on the outboard branch of the crossguard and the knucklebow. Hilt perfect with very nice dark, untouched patina. Fluted ivory/bone grip also perfect with nice mellow patina. The original black leather scabbard very sound with no breaks or bends and just some finish crackling but no flaking. Brass mounts, also with nice untouched patina and incised line decoration. Incorporates two carrying rings and frog stud. Choice example of this classic American form.
