Description

U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officers' Sword Donated to the Navy Relief Fund Auction by Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King With Accompanying Signed Auction Card. The Navy Relief Fund auctions were and continue to be a source of fund raising to help sailors and Marines with financial assistance both at home and abroad. Many celebrated WWII leaders donated uniforms and other personal effects to help the Relief society raise funds. Admiral King's donated sword is a standard Model 1852 U.S. Naval Officers' sword with a bright "B. Pasquale / San Francisco" marked blade which is etched with floral scroll, military vignettes and engraved "Ernest J. King" on the obverse. The gilded-brass hilt retains virtually all of its luster and the grips show little wear. The sword is complete with a gold bullion sword knot and leather scabbard with brass mounts. The sword is accompanied by a 3" x 5" note card which has been mounted to a black matte. The card contains the Navy Relief Auction information and has been boldly signed "E. J. King".
