Description

Six Ringed Rapier.

Approximately 49 1/8-inches overall with a 40 7/8-inch diamond cross-section blade. Sword blade 7/8th-inches at its widest. Wire-bound grip, grip is 3-inches long. Ovoid pommel, 1 1/2-inches in diameter. The six ring guard is symmetrical with stylized leaf carved steel shell plates near the ricasso, which is attached with screws, [one missing]. Recurved quillons. Note: According to A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor by George Cameron Stone, [pages 524-526], Rapiers are swords especially designed for thrusting and provided with a more or less elaborate guard. The name first appeared in England about 1560, although this type of sword was brought there much earlier by the Spaniards.

Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt.
