Description

Schiavona Baskethilt Sword, 17th Century.

Approximately 40 1/2-inches overall with a 34-inch straight double edged blade. Fitted with a very fine intricate baskethilt showing a flared design, but of typical fashion for a Schiavona design. Oval grip with finger grooves, right handed thumbrest and a brass curved three point floral pommel, somewhat typical cat's head pommel. Note: Originally, the Schiavona was a Renaissance sword that became popular in Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries, featuring a wider blade than Rapiers. According to consignor records, this sword was bought in May of 1986 and invoiced by Arbour Antiques Ltd (Proprietor-R.J. Wigington). Photocopy included.

Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt. Dried leather handle with some losses. Guard is a bit loose.
