Sword Awarded to Jacques-Philippe Vergand by First Consul of France, Napoleon Bonaparte.

Sabre d' Honneur and Scabbard.
34 1/2-inch curved blade. 42-inches in overall length. Blade marked MANUFACTURED IN THE KLINGENTHAL METHOD, CONTRACTORS - BOUTET. Scabbard inscribed in the English-style cursive THE FIRST CONSUL, TO CITIZEN VERGAND, CHIEF SERGEANT [in mounted arms], OF THE 2ND REGIMENT OF MOUNTED HUNTERS. Scabbard interior detail showing the opening for the mumps and reads MANUFACTURED AT VERSAILLES. Half shield design of the mumps and the hilt, wooden handle with leather covering and silver wire braiding. Button cap pommel design. Mounting rings, of iron, attached to the scabbard by flat silver bands with ovals on both ends.
Note: According to research and information provided by consignor, Jacques-Philippe Vergand was born July 24, 1771 in Muese. He was awarded a Sabre d' Honneur while serving as Chief Seargent [in mounted arms] to the 2nd Regiment of Mounted Hunters. At Marengo, in a charge against the enemy cavalry, he took a superior officer prisoner. The First Consul (Napoleon) awarded him an honor sabre on 28 Fructidor an X (August 10, 1802, The French Republican Calendar). He still made the campaigns of the Army of the West in 1801 and 1802.

Condition: Very good as presented. Handling and storage wear present. Light dings and mars throughout. Some pitting to parts. Fine scratches. Tarnish and loses to finish.
