Description

Revolutionary War Era Continental Navy Sword, Ex Peter Tuite Collection.

The slightly curved blade is approximately 29-inches in length, with a wide single fuller running the entire length of the blade. 34 ½-inches overall. The knucklebow and guard are made from a single piece of brass. The urn pommel has an anchor design on the obverse side. Grooved wood rectangular grip, lacking the wire wrap. This sword is featured on page 12 of Peter Tuite's U.S. Naval Officers Their Swords and Dirks, published by Andrew Mowbray, 2004. Tuite indicates that swords of this type were British made but would have been available to Continental Navy officers.

Condition: Very good. The blade has an overall uniform dark patina with scattered light surface pitting. Wire wrapping is absent from the grip.
