Description
Mid-19th Century Ornate German Hunting Sword With Damascus Blade.16 1/4-inch straight Damascus blade (21 3/4-inches overall). Finely-etched gilded decoration extend 4-inches from the hilt on both sides of the blade. The obverse scene features a man apparently beating his dog with a stick, all this surrounded with foliate decoration; the reverse scene depicts two running dogs within the same foliate decoration. Leather-wrapped wooden grip surrounded by a cast metal frame of oak leaves and vines. Pommel cap likewise decorated with oak leaves. Leather-wrapped wooden scabbard with matching cast-metal oak leave/vine motif throat and tip.
Condition: Very good. Some scattered dark spots to blade but most of the gilt accents on the engraving remains strong. Some scuffing and loss of leather on the grip and scabbard.
