Description
Lot of Three U.S. Civil War Swords.Including: 1) German import non-regulation field officers' sword with a 32 3/4-inch slight curved lavishly etched blade manufactured by W. Walscheid, Solingen. Wire-wrapped fish skin grips. Half-basket sheet iron guard cut with an American eagle perched on the letters "US". Iron scabbard with two carrying rings. 2) U.S. Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber with a 32-inch curved blade marked "U.S. / A.H.C. / 1863 on the obverse ricasso and with an Ames maker mark on the reverse. Wire-wrapped leather grip. Knuckle bow marked "HG". Iron scabbard with two carrying rings. 3) U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry (Dragoon) Saber with a 35 ½-inch curved blade marked Sheble & Fisher, Philadelphia on the reverse ricasso, wire-wrapped leather grip, brass hilt. Iron scabbard with two carrying rings.
Condition: 1) Blade and hilt with a uniform dark patina, otherwise very good condition. 2) Uniform smooth gray patina on the blade; leather grip wrap dry and just starting to crack; scabbard with uniform dark patina and light surface pits. Very good. 3) Scatter dark spots on the blade from storage wear; scabbard with a dark patina with light surface pitting. Very good.
