Description
Lot of Three Nathan Starr Contract Cavalry Sabers. Including: 1) Starr 1812/13 contract saber with a 34" curved blade marked "P / HHP / N. STARR / O" on the obverse ricasso. Reverse "P" guard hilt with leather covered wood grip. Iron scabbard with two mounting rings (one mounting ring support bears traces of an old brazed repair). Blade with an overall smooth gray patina; grip lacking 20% of leather wrap; scabbard has a few dents near the drag, otherwise very good condition. 2) Starr 1812/13 contract cavalry saber with an 33 ¾" curved blade marked "P / HHP / N. STARR" on the obverse ricasso. Reverse "P" guard with grooved wooden grip. Iron scabbard with two mounting rings. Blade exhibits some manufacturing flaws on the surface near the tip; small crack in wooden grip and lacking leather wrap; sword doesn't fully seat in scabbard, otherwise in very good condition. 3) Starr 1818 contract saber with a 32" curved blade marked "US / P / LS / N. STARR" on the obverse ricasso. 75% leather covering left on grip; blade with an overall smooth gray patina. Good condition.Auction Info
