Interestingly Marked Ames U.S. Model 1860 Cavalry Saber with Scabbard. Having a 34 3/4-inch curved blade with one small fuller and one large fuller. Left side ricasso marked: Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee. overstamped:72/C/Ala [at a diagonal].. Right side ricasso marked: US/J.F./1865. Three-bar nickel-plated brass guard. Brass wire-wrapped leather grip. Contained in original nickel-plated steel scabbard with two-ring mounts. Condition: Very good. Blade showing a light brown age patina, scattered light spotting and minor pitting. Heavy oil deposits present. Hilt with wear and scattered flaking of nickel. finish, mixed with mottled brass patina. Scabbard retaining approximately 80-85% finish with light scattered wear, spotting and patches of flaking finish present .
