Description

German Two-Handed Broadsword.

Approximately 70-inches overall with a 49-inch blade with parrying hooks [or Parierhaken in German]. [Parrying hooks within a 9-inch modern leather wrap]. 21-inch massive blade guard with simple pattern and semi-rolled coil ends. Leather-wrapped two-handed handle with studs and raised features leads to a pattern iron pommel cap. 2 1/4-inches at its widest. Note: Also known as a Zweihänder in German, these massive swords were not meant to be carried in sheaths, but rather across the shoulder like a halberd. See, A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor by Stone for similar examples. Consignor blue tag attached states this weapon as "Dopple Slanger Line Breaker German 1600's".

Condition: Very good for its age and configuration. Finish primarily a smooth grey age patina with noticeable age wear and pitting. Cracking and discoloration spots to leather.
