Description
French Model 1853 Dragoon Officers' Saber. 39" straight blade with two fullers running the entire length. The obverse ricasso has several French proof marks. Gilded-brass hilt with classic half-basket guard. Horn grip with twisted gilt wire wrap. Front of pommel engraved with monograph "IB". Pommel shows evidence of an attempt to snug blade to hilt. The blade has an overall smooth gray patina with small areas of light surface rust and shallow pits. Hilt retains approximately 50-60% luster and the guard is a bit loose.
