Description

Damascened Spanish Rapier by Federico.

Approximately 47-inches overall with a 38-inch double edged straight blade, with partial double fullers on each side of the blade, blades are properly marked but characters illegible. Ricasso on both sides with the marking of FEDERICO [oval stamp]. Swept hilt design heightened in gold koftgari throughout, straight quillons with flared ends, Pas D' Ane, Anneau and Branch. Wire-wrapped handle. Intricate ovoid pommel design with button. Damascened added at a later time, typical of work done in Toledo, Spain.

Condition: Good with age wear and patina throughout blade. Blade lightly cleaned at some point, showing an overall mottled gray patina on hilt with what appears to be faint traces gilt finish. Some loss to gold work. Fine scratches present to metal. Traces of an applied lacquer finish, nicotine stains.
