Description

Contemporary Leech & Rigdon Confederate Field & Staff Officer's Sword.

A finely crafted contemporary reproduction of a Confederate Leech & Rigdon Field and Staff Officer's Sword, complete with scabbard. The curved single-edged blade is etched on both sides, the obverse decorated for two-thirds of its length with scrollwork, floral motifs, and a flag-and-arms panoply, while the ricasso and blade feature bold "C.S.A." markings. The cast-brass guard shows the classic Leech & Rigdon pattern with pierced initials "C.S." and feathered decorative elements, now displaying attractive green verdigris patina from age and handling.

Note: This example reflects the style of Confederate swords produced in Columbus, Mississippi and later Selma, Alabama (1862-64), highly prized for their distinctive Southern manufacture and symbolism. The contemporary version captures the spirit and aesthetic of the period with impressive fidelity and display appeal.

Condition: Good overall. The blade exhibits scattered nicks, light oxidation, and minor surface marks consistent with handling and age. The brass guard shows areas of verdigris patina, and the scabbard bears dents and moderate wear to the finish from use and storage. A handsome and well-presented display example of the iconic Confederate officer's sword. Sold as is.
