Description

Confederate Foot Officers' Sword Made by Dufilho, New Orleans.
30-inch slightly curved blade marked DUFILHO / N. ORLEANS on the reverse ricasso. The design is almost identical to the U.S. Model 1850 Foot Officers' sword. The brass guard features the same rose design, and the pommel cap is decorated along its forward edge with laurel leaves. The grip is wire-wrapped leather. The scabbard is all leather with brass mounts and drag. A sword knot is attached to the hilt. A very attractive and scarce sword by a well known maker.

Condition: Very good. The blade exhibits a smooth dark patina with scattered areas of light surface pitting. There are faint traces of the original gilt on the hilt but generally it has an overall dark patina. The scabbard remains sound though not dry, with some cracking to the surface of the leather.
