Description
Confederate "Dog River" Style Sword.34 3/4-inch blade with single wide fullers on each side running to within 6 3/4-inches of the point. Two deep forging flaws appear on both sides of the ricasso. Brass hilt with two branches terminating at the oval counterguard. Leather covered wooden grips with single-wire wrap. Iron scabbard with two brass mounts. Crude construction with a visible seam line running the entire length.
Condition: Fair. Blade with a mottled gray patina; grip with some loss to the leather covering, the remaining leather is delicate. Scabbard with moderate surface rust and a small hole at the drag on the reverse side. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
