Description

Confederate "Dog River" Cavalry Saber.
34 ½-inch curved blade with unstopped fuller that runs open to within 1" of the guard and 10" of the tip. Brass hilt with the usual rough appearance and rather crudely cast. Wire and leather wrap appear original. Typical Confederate iron body scabbard with crude heavy seam, wide brass lipped throat and brass ring mounts with iron rings. Throat and mount have been crudely brazed on. The top of the brass throat has crudely etched "LXXXI'.

Condition: Very good. Blade with a smooth gray patina with a slight bend to the right. Scabbard with scattered shallow dents. Lacks drag.
From the L. B. Paul Collection
