Description
Confederate Cavalry Sword, Unknown Manufacturer .This is a good example of a Confederate cavalry sword, possibly made by a local or regional manufacturer given its lack of identifying marks. The sword is 41 inches overall, with a 35 inch blade. The blade is well made, being in good status save for the tip, which is bent and has pitting. The sword has a point of balance 6 ½ inches from the guard, typical for cavalry swords of this type. The three bar brass guard has aged well, gaining a wonderful antique look. The grip is leather, wrapped in wire. The sword comes with a metal scabbard which has a deep patina save for the brass bands which hold the belt rings, giving it a unique look. The sword weighs a little over 2 lbs. 4 oz (nearly 4 pounds with its metal scabbard).
Condition: Good. Spots of patina on sword blade. Minuscule movement in hilt, but sword is solid otherwise. Even dark patina on body of scabbard, aged bronze on hilt and scabbard belt ring bands. Brass throat of scabbard is detached from scabbard. Pitting and bend in tip of blade.
