Description

Classic 'Indian Princess' American Militia Officer's Sword By Horstmann & Sons With Stunning Mint Blade. 29 3/4" straight blade decorated for 1/2 its length with fire blue and gilt highlighted engraved decorations. The brilliant fire blue terminates in scrolls, with the delicately engraved scroll and military trophy motifs heavy overlaid with gold wash. There is also a gilt line on either side of the blade. Retains 98% of the original fire blue and gilt, the balance of the blade of 100% of the original brilliant luster. Classic form hilt with scroll decorated knucklebow, langets decorated with spread wing eagle and shield on both sides and unusually full figured bust of the 'Indian princess' with excellent detail. Mother of pearl plaque grips perfect, with 1/2" decoratively embossed ferrule at the base. Hilt retains traces of the original gilt, the balance a nice, dark untouched patina. The all brass scabbard is near perfect with just a few very minor shallow dents and fully engraved. Engraved scroll/leaf panels above and below the ring mounts with geometric engraving at the rings themselves. Frog stud with cast relief decoration. 6" panel on the lower section of the scabbard engraved with leaf motifs with decoratively cast tip. Both edges of the scabbard from top to bottom are engraved with a scroll and circle motif. Reverse of the scabbard exhibits the separately affixed Horstmann logo brass scroll marked "Horstmann / & / Sons / Makers / Philada". A really exceptional example of this very popular and desirable uniquely American officer's sword.
