Description

Civil War Unmarked Confederate Cavalry Saber. 34 ½-inch slightly curved blade with a wide unstopped fuller running to within 5 ½-inches of the tip and a false edge extending back about 6-inches from the tip. Brass half-basket guard, wood grips with rather crudely applied leather covering and wrapped with 14 single-wire turns. Phrygian helmet pommel. No visible markings. Heavy iron scabbard with two brass mounts and iron rings. A well-made sword.

Condition: Very good. The blade exhibits moderate dark staining; the remaining finish a smooth gray patina. Occasional pinprick pitting. The grip has some areas of small loss to the leather wrapping. The brass guard has a uniform smooth, dark patina. The scabbard exhibits honest wear but with no significant dents or dings. Lacking the throat.
