Description

American Eaglehead Officer's Saber, Circa 1820. 28 1/4" curved blade with single narrow deep fuller along the back edge. A few scattered nicks including two larger ones near the tip. Generally smooth and gray with just some old scattered surface rust. The blade is undecorated and is very likely of American manufacture. Stirrup hilt with disc quillon. Nice crested eaglehead with brown carved bone grip with 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Hilt overall excellent with deep dark untouched patina. The scabbard, which utilizes only two mounts, with the top mount having a plain oval frog stud, is very sound with finish crackling and some flaking. Mounts perfect with dark untouched patina and simple line decoration. Good representative eaglehead saber from this earlier period.
