Description

American Eaglehead Officer's Saber C. 1815. 28", 1 1/2' wide curved blade. Decorated for half its length with engraved floral/scroll and military motifs on a fire blue background. The engraved decoration was also originally gilded but only traces remain, while 20% of the fire blue remains. Also marked Warranted at the base of the obverse. The balance of the blade generally bright and clean with just some scattered minor staining but absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. All brass hilt with the D guard splitting at the base to form two branches and a base. The face of the guard is fluted and there is incised line decoration on the quillon. Very nice crested eaglehead. Dark fluted bone grip with 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Hilt overall about perfect with nice patina, retaining traces of a silver wash. Nice sword and doubtless quite early.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
