Description

American Eaglehead Infantry Officer's Saber C. 1825. 29 1/2" unmarked plain curved blade near mint, retaining most of the original luster with just some scattered stains, absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Blade retains the original buff leather washer. All brass hilt with plain heavy rounded D-guard knucklebow with teardrop quillon. Fine quality eaglehead with nice feather delineation. Hilt perfect with nice dark untouched patina. Nicely carved ivory grip perfect with rich patina, and a 1/2" brass ferrule at the base. Original scabbard with plain brass mounts retains traces of the original silver wash. Two carrying rings and frog stud. Finish with some crackling but minimal flaking. One weak spot about 4" below the middle mount where it has a clean break 2/3 of the way through, but still intact and easily restored. Otherwise the scabbard is very sound. Nice American eaglehead saber.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
